General STARGATE SG-1 fanzines

[ how to list your zine ] [ available zines ] [ fanzine form ]

Last Updated: May 4, 2003

A GENERAL OVERVIEW

Now why is there never fan fics about me in these zines? Welcome to NAQADA, a website dedicated to listing general fanzines on the TV series Stargate SG-1. Most material presented in fanzines is not available on the internet or web, and many editors will not publish material previously posted to the net. Virtually all fanzines are basically labors of love, the costs charged cover just production and postage costs, and no profits are made. They're normally 8-1/2 x 11 in size and GBC bound.

Naqada is now generously housed on the Stargate website Stargatefan.com.

Here are some terms for those on the web who might be new to the concept of fanzines:

  • Fan Fiction:
Fan-inspired/written stories about their favorite characters. They can range from one page stories to 200 page novels. They are normally purely original story ideas never seen on the show, and sometimes are missing scenes from episodes where fans think the scriptwriters should have done more...
  • Fanzine:
A fanzine (as we old-timers know it) is a hard-copy (paper) endeavor containing fiction, artwork, poetry, or articles. Some can be contain non-fiction material as well. The internet sometimes refers to fanzines as web-based magazines, but in regards to these SG-1 fanzines, they are hard-copy. Also called a 'zine or zine.

  • Crossover:
A story that contains the characters from Stargate SG-1, but also another TV show (crossovers between Stargate SG-1 and The Sentinel seem quite popular).
  • Death Stories:
A story in which one or more of the lead characters (Jack, Sam, Daniel, Teal'c) dies.
  • Genzine:
A fanzine which contains fiction which usually resembles the show. It does not contain X-rated or slash material, but can contain emotionally intense material nevertheless.
  • Get-em:
    See Whumping.
  • Hurt/Comfort:
Also referred to on the internet as angst stories, although angst stories can just be emotional anguish and no physical hurt. H/C stories usually involve physical or emotional injury to one character, which is then followed up by comfort from another character.
  • Mary Sue:
A story that contains an unbelievably perfect character (invariably female) with whom the lead character (Jack, Daniel, etc.) falls hopefully in love. In the old days of Star Trek fanfic, she was the ensign who would save the U.S.S. Enterprise using a bobby pin. She's usually got a gazillion degrees, knows karate, can reassemble a gun in a hurricane, and is physically perfect as well.
  • Slash:
Homoerotic fiction. The term slash is derived from "/" in between names, such as Jack/Daniel, Jack/Teal'c. Not for everyone.
  • Whumping:
A hurt/comfort story (see below) in which a character suffers way beyond the call of duty, and a lot of the times, endlessly. Can be way too intense for some readers. Sometimes referred to as a 'get-e'm'.

  • Hmm...another Daniel Whumping fic...again?!

The fanzines listed on this site do not accept adult (X-rated) or slash material (nor will be adult fanzines be listed here). Check each listing separately in regards for other parameters.

Some fans may argue: why fanzines when you can get it for free on the net? Fanzines were around for a long time before the internet came into creation. Many fanzines contain art, most are edited (unless otherwise noted) so you won't cringe at ghastly typos or plot errors. And it's nice to have a bound copy of stories you can can read in bed. Many zine stories will never be posted on the internet/web.
